Hi all, I wanted to share this inlay I did for Kathy Wingert. It was a last minute addition to a butterfly theme on the F.B. Kathy was concerned with the bridge mass and wanted to be sure it sounded right, so I had to inlay it after the guitar was completed. Nothing like running a router over a pristine instrument a few days after completion!

Paul - nice work. Inlaying over a finished guitar must have been a test of character (yikes). |

Paul, I think she is, I just delivered a wild looking cedar set to Mike Greenfield for a theme guitar and he indicated that Kathy's daughter was going to to the inlay work. There is this neat connection around Kathy's and Mike's daughters with the inlay that will happen on this guitar. Shane |

Hal actually drove 800 miles to pick the guitar up personally. There's a very touching story that goes with this one! (Here's the link from page 2 of the gallery.) Hal's story

I hope to have something to show off soon, but my last was was so difficult to do I fear I may have lost it. I was worried about the stone types cracking after the inlay was installed so I inlaid them all thicker and in reverse. It made for tough routing. Then I had to split some bigger pieces against the radius and the glue pulled them out of alignment-depth wise. It's the first time I have had so many issues. We'll see what happens! I just need to sand it out, then I'll know if it survived. Sometimes inlay is stressful! I have done bridgework on fully completed instruments as well. I know how nervewracking that is! Post more pics..

Wow...touching story. I would have been in tears the whole time I was working on that if I were doing it... Thanks for pointing it out to us. I missed it the first time. |
